Our Ueno Park Sakura Cherry Blossom Adventure!
By cooldude | April 6, 2008
On our 4th day in Tokyo, we went to Ueno Park in the morning. From our hostel, we took the subway train from the Asakusa Stn to the Ueno Stn via the Ginza Line. The park is a very short distance from the Ueno Stn, so it just takes only a few minutes walk to reach there.
Once we reach the park, we were greeted by a weeping cherry blossom/sakura tree (cause it’s too happy to see us…) standing behind a large smooth rock with some engravings (”Ueno Park” in kanji) on it.
If you thot this is cool, wait till u see the rest of the park!! Let us 3 dudes show you wat’s inside this little magical garden!
The 3 dudes posing at the entrance of Ueno park. We simply can’t wait to see wat’s in stored for us in the background!
A few minutes walk into the park, we saw a small shrine, devine! Japan is the only country I know which builds shrines in parks. Cool!

Walking further down, we were delighted to see a pink sakura tree. Actually, you might think that all sakuras are pink in color, wrong! Around 80 to 90 percent of the sakuras we saw in tokyo are white in color. Surprise, surprise, surprise…

Three close up shots of the pink sakura, taken by cute dude, using his professional Canon 30D DSLR camera and a powerful 70-300mm, 24-70mm f2.8L, 10-22mm (wat does all that numbers mean? Beats me…) zoom lens. Niccceeee….
Here’s a handsome little kid admiring the beauty of the park
Sakuras, sakuras and more sakuras! We were simply dazzled by shear size of the bloom in the park @_@
Us posing at a stone gate in the park. Notice the series of smaller red gates behind us.
Sea Of Sakuras

Woman taking photo of sakuras. The Japanese are simply crazy about the cherry blossom festival!

Man cooking fried noodles in Ueno Park
Mmmm… smells nice!
We bought a box of Takoyaki too…
While the Japanese are crazy about their sakuras, we are crazy about our food!
There’s nothing more perfect than having a sakura flavored (although I swore it tasted like almond) ice-cream to end the meal, yummy!

A man enjoying his takoyaki, totally oblivious to his surroundings…

I call this “A Man Under A Cheery Blossom Tree”…

Well, this is only the first time we went to Japan, so we only traveled to Tokyo. I’ve heard a lot about Hokkaido and would definitely want to go there in the near future (yes, I would drag the other 2 dudes along
)
Anyway, I’ve found this JNTO website which offers lots of information on Hokkaido. You can go there and have a look!

Hi anya_girl, you might want to refer to the website at http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2011_when.html for the cherry blossom dates in Japan. Hope you have a nice trip to Japan!

Hi there! Came across your very informative blog as I was researching places to visit in Japan. I’ll be in Tokyo at the end of March - plan to make a trip to Ueno park to gawk at the pretty flowers… can you please give a rough estimate on how long it takes for a leisurely stroll around the park? Is there a main trail in the park where cherry blossoms can be found, or are they just everywhere? I was planning to spend around 2 hours in the park… that enough?
Also, just out of curiosity - was the Sumida river cruise worth it? Am deciding whether or not to take it…
Thanks very much!
