3 Really Cool Dudes In Tokyo :-D !!!

Nikko Trip: Part 2 (Magnificant Toshogu Shrine!)

By cooldude | April 23, 2008

After 2 hrs of train ride from Tokyo, we finally reached Nikko! But the temperature was much lower than in Tokyo (at least 10 degrees celcius lower!). We were certainly caught unexpected and had to bare with the gruesome chilliness. But our spirits remained high!

Although you can’t see from our face, we’re actually shivering from the cold, brrrr….

Nikko Trip: Part 1 (Nikko here we come!)

By hotdude | April 20, 2008

Nikko vs Hakone, a tough choice right? Nikko is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites where the mignificent Nikko Tosho-gu, Futarasan Shrine and Rinno-ji stand and Hakone is a great place to visit the beautiful ice-capped Mount Fuji and Lake Ashi. And the winner is… Nikko!

Well, the cute dude insisted going to Nikko as there is more room to show off his photography skill in Nikko as Nikko merges tradition with mother nature. Cool dude and I had no strong objection (since he’s our main camera dude =p).

We had to drag ourselves from our cosy beds at 5:00am in the morning to catch the first train to Nikko. Before that, we had to answer to our growling stomachs. Off we go to the nearby 24/7 Seiyu supermart to purchase our japanese breakfast, the renowned Bento!

Very useful resources for your Tokyo trip :-)

By cooldude | April 10, 2008

Before I went to Tokyo, I went to my local JNTO (Japan National Tourist Organization) branch to gather all the brochures I need for my Tokyo trip. There’s sure lots of them there, and it was a real hassle to carry them all back. However, you don’t have to do that anymore. I’ve found that the JNTO website also provides downloadable files which introduces the popular destinations in Japan (I only found out after our trip, *SLAP on my head…)

Below is the download link for the toyko walks brochure, I’ve used them for all our trips in Tokyo, really handy :-)

By hotdude | April 8, 2008

Odaiba is a popular shopping and sight-seeing tourist attraction. It houses the famous Rainbow Bridge, Mini Statue of Liberty, Aqua City, the Dai-Roku Daiba and the Palette Town Ferris Wheel.

The Rainbow Bridge is known for it’s colorful appearance at night from the illumination of red, white and green lamps. Below are the different faces of the magnificent Rainbow Bridge.

Shinjuku - A City Of Neon Lights!

By cooldude | April 8, 2008

During the first day of our Tokyo trip, we checked in our hostel quite late in the evening. So we figured that we would go to some place which does not take a long time to walk around in. Shinjuku was the first place which came to our mind, since we wanted to have the firsthand experience of Tokyo’s urban nightlife.

From our hostel in Asakusa, we took a subway train to Shinjuku and it took around 25 minutes to reach our destination (not counting the 10 minutes we wasted trying to figure out which lines to transfer and what tickets we should buy… damn the subway there is sure confusing for a first-timer). Once we reach there, we were in for another big headache. The Shinjuku subway was HUGE! Even by looking at the map, we could not figure out where we were :-(. In the end, we just chose any exit to get out of the station and find our way from there.

When we finally got out, we were amazed by the size of the city! It’s simply a shoppers paradise! Everywhere you’ll see neon lights in red, green, blue, white… just name any color and they’ll have it. There were also lots and lots of people! You’ll have to see it to believe it. Below are the pictures we took of this colorful and exciting place…

Our Ueno Park Sakura Cherry Blossom Adventure!

By cooldude | April 6, 2008

On our 4th day in Tokyo, we went to Ueno Park in the morning. From our hostel, we took the subway train from the Asakusa Stn to the Ueno Stn via the Ginza Line. The park is a very short distance from the Ueno Stn, so it just takes only a few minutes walk to reach there.

Once we reach the park, we were greeted by a weeping cherry blossom/sakura tree (cause it’s too happy to see us…) standing behind a large smooth rock with some engravings (”Ueno Park” in kanji) on it.

Where We Stayed During 5 Days In Tokyo…

By cooldude | April 6, 2008

No, we did not stay in some luxurious 5-star hotels during our trip in tokyo. To save up on accomodation (so that we could spend more on other goodies…), we chose to stay in a hostel. So the first thing I thought of was hostelworld.com. I used it everytime I’m travelling overseas and it has never failed me even once! One thing I liked about this site is that it compares the price every hostel in the area and provides real user reviews of them.

After much research, I chose to stay in Asakusa Ryokan Toukaisou. It’s cheap (only cost about US$117 per person for 4 nights)! For that price, you’d be surprised to find the hostel super clean, although the rooms are a little cramp. The location of the hostel is also close to famous tourist attractions such as the Sensoji Temple. Below are a few pictures of the hostel :-).
