From the title of the blog post, it’s not hard to guess that I’m going to blog about Tsukiji Fish Market! The Tsukiji Fish Market trip was supposed to be on our second day of Tokyo tour, but we found out that it was closed on that day from a time schedule found in our hostel. So we had to push it to the third day of our trip. Actually wanted to go there early to see the tuna auction, but we figured that the cab fee would be pretty ex, so we dropped the idea.
We woke up at 0530am, washed up and took the subway to Tsukijishijo station. Once we were there, we were trying to figure out which direction to go when Cute Dude said: “Aiya, just follow the basket lah…” Clever kid! We just need to follow any aunties carrying a shopping basket and we’ll be able to reach our destination! So we secretly crept behind an unknowing woman with a basket and followed her to the fish market…
Here we are at the infamous Tsukiji fish market! (Shhhh…. hope the woman in front didn’t notice that we are following her…)

Once inside, we saw a lot of these fish transporting vehicle. Hmmm, interesting design, the head of the vehicle looks like a garbage bin. (Do not ever underestimate the speed of this baby, it can travel quite fast and there’s at least hundreds of these things around, so watch your back!)
We were simply dumbfounded by the size of this place! By the looks of it, it could be the size of several football fields. With all the small walkways between stores, you can say it’s almost like a huge maze. As you can see from the pic, there’s lots of fishes, clams, squids, and other seafood lying here, there, and everywhere!
A look at a typical seafood store. These things are simply too fresh, any fresher and you’ll have to catch them yourself!
Another overview of the fish market…
Lady opening up clams and packing them nicely in styrofoam packs. What a bloody job.
A closer look at the clams, in Singapore we call them “sea ham” and they can be eaten raw (mmmm, my favorite…). But I’ve never seen one so big before! My saliva is dripping as I look at them.
More clams, big ones, small ones, flat ones, fat ones, juicy ones, elongated ones… (aaah, this could go on forever and ever..)
Let’s take a good look at the colossal oysters.
Poor Fish…
More fishes here.

Succulent oysters, can I take one bag pleeeeaaaassseee.

That’s the largest chunk of tuna fish I’ve ever seen in my entire life! From where I come from, tunas comes in little cans, didn’t expect them to be so humongous.
Good fish!
Long legged crabs, one of Japan’s most famous delicacies.
Squids, in my country we call them “sotong”.
An old man carrying boxes of fish.
Puffer fish, another japanese favorite.
More puffer fish, but larger ones
What’s the weird looking sea creature on the left?
Well, that’s me posing with the tunas.
Nice looking sashimi!

Eels, notice how they skew them nicely with wooden sticks so that they can be barbecued right away.
When we talk about sea food, we simply cannot miss these!
Another weird looking thingy…
Men busy hacking and sawing tunas, huh??
Yes, no kidding these men are actually hacking tunas into fine slices using… an axe!
And this one’s using a hacksaw machine. Oh my god…
Another seafood store…
Man slicing tuna. With that thing in his hand, I would not dare go near him!
Just outside Tsukiji, you can see all the hustles and bustles of the fish wholesale market.
Out at last!
